  3. 264-146 B.C.E Key Events: • Romans conquer Mediterranean Region Positive Effects: • Romans gain control of entire Mediterranean Area and gain more power Negative Effects: Carthaginians lose land to Romans Ruins of a Roman city

  4. 145-44 B.C.E Key Events • Republic collapses, Romans conquer Gual, Cyprus and Syria Positive Effects: • Caesar maintains control of Rome, Roman Empire expands Negative Effects: • Caesar is murdered, fights break out A Roman city

  5. 44-14 B.C.E Key Events: • Rome becomes empire, Octavian rules Positive Effects: • Mediterranean Region is at peace for 200 years Negative Effects: • Defending empire becomes harder, an early rebellion wipes out army • The Coliseum was a big part of ancient Rome • and still stands today
