AEROMAG Corporation “A next generation wind turbine generator and solar energy company specializing in hybrid renewable energy systems and components.” AEROMAG Specializes in: Helping you get off the grid But how? • Wind Energy Systems • Solar Energy Systems • Micro Hydroelectric Systems Lakota CAET Team Capstone Design Presentation
Executive Summary AEROMAG Corporation of Prescott Valley, AZ requires a working model of a Lakota Compressed Air Energy Turbine (CAET). Lakota is an existing wind turbine, which will be retrofitted to power a compressor. Lakota CAET is the compressor and Lakota combination. Lakota CAET facilitates compressed air energy storage via a ground level pressure vessel for a variety of applications. Lakota CAET Team Capstone Design Presentation

Deliverables/Scope of Work • Select Compressor and Seal • Design/Analyze – Compressor Housing, Yaw • Assembly, & Shaft • Develop Bench Test Procedure • Produce Final Drawings (AutoCAD R14) • AEROMAG Machines Parts needed for CAET Prototype • Build and Bench Test Prototype Lakota CAET Team Capstone Design Presentation
Functional Requirements • Compressor geometry must not interfere with furling or flow • characteristics • Compressed air transport must be incorporated into yaw • assembly • Compressed air will be stored in pressure vessel • Pressure vessel must exhaust excess air pressure • 6 mph cut-in speed • Survive wind speeds up to 120 mph • Obtain maximum power between 8-9 mph Lakota CAET Team Capstone Design Presentation
Nonfunctional Requirements • Must utilize as much existing material as possible • Design must meet AEROMAG’s aesthetic standards • Design must be economically viable • Ten year design life with one scheduled maintenance action • Manufacturing drawings must utilize metric dimensions Lakota CAET Team Capstone Design Presentation
Retrofit of Existing Castings/Components • Compressor and Seal Integration • Shaft Coupling • Machine Design / FE Model • Manufacturing Drawings Lakota CAET Team Capstone Design Presentation
Compressor Selection • Oil-less • One maintenance action every 5 years • Size Constraints • Overall length < 6 in. • Weather Resistance (possible marine applications) • Availability Lakota CAET Team Design Review Presentation
Gast 1534 Compressor Lakota CAET Team Capstone Design Presentation
Features of Gast 1534 • Oil-less • Rotary Vane • Rugged construction/low maintenance • Design life of approximately 10,000 hours • 2.2 cfm at 0 psi, 2 cfm at 10 psi • 5000 rpm operating range • Compact size (4.05”L x 3.62”W x 3.52”H) • Light weight (3 lbs.) • Counter-Clockwise rotation Lakota CAET Team Capstone Design Presentation
