The sun’s relationship to earth determines the season. About one million Earth’s could fit inside the sun. Sunny Days It takes 8 minutes for the sun’s light to reach Earth. Photosynthesis is a process which uses the sun’s light to grow flowers. Click the pic
High Altitude Clouds Above 18,000 feet Cirrocumulus clouds have a patch like appearance. Cirrus clouds are thin and wispy. Cumulonimbus clouds produce lightning, heavy rains, hail, strong winds and tornados. Nimbostratus clouds are very dark associated with large areas of precipitation. Multi –layer clouds
Low Clouds Stratocumulus are generally clusters and have a popcorn like appearance. Cumulus are puffy with distinct edges and have a bit of height Stratus are generally the lowest (besides fog) and don’t have much definition. Mid-level clouds Altocumulus are either patchy & scattered or linear bands. Altostratus covers the sky uniformly and it makes it hard to see individual features.
Rain starts off as ice or snow crystals at cloud level. Click the pic Rain drops can fall at speeds of about 22 miles an hour. Rain is recycled water evaporated from our worlds lakes, rivers, oceans, etc. Rain drops do not fall in a tear drop shape, they originally fall in the shape of a flat oval
Lightning Florida is the lightning Lightning bolts travel capital of the at speeds of up to 60,000 miles per United States Click the pic second Temperatures in the path of a lightning More than 70% of all people bolt can reach as high as Struck by Lightning still 50,000° F survive
The order of the spectrum is: RED,ORANGE, YELLOW, GREEN, BLUE, INDIGO & VIOLET. • Everyone sees their own "personal" rainbow due to how we each interpret colors. Newton discovered the seven distinct colors of the visible rainbow.
The record snow fall in one season is in Buffalo in 1977 (199.4 inches) The largest snowflake recorded was 15 inches wide and 8 inches thick. There are five different shapes of snowflakes Click the pic
Hurricane Fast Facts Click the pic Hurricanes are rated from 1-4. A category 4 is the strongest hurricane. There were 3 hurricanes in the 2009 season, and 8 in the 2008 season A Hurricane has to be category 3 or higher in order to be considered a major hurricane. In order for a storm to be classified as a hurricane it must have winds of at least 75 mph.
Tornado Click the pic
A tornado can occur anytime of the year, however, many of them occur in May. The tornado is the most violent of all earth’s storms. The average duration of a tornado is less than 15 minutes.
