  3. Louisiana High School Graduation RequirementsStudents enter high school following the TOPS University Pathway. Students wishing to switch to the Jump Start diploma must do so during their second year of high school. Students pursuing the Jump Start TOPS Tech Pathwayare striving to meet requirements for TOPS Tech and are actively working to earn credentials needed to be successful in chosen career fields.Students planning on attending a 2-year community college, vocational or technical school, or enter the workforce should pursue the Jump Start TOPS Tech Pathway.Upon earning an Associates Degree, these students may transfer to a 4-year University. Students selecting the TOPS University Pathway will continue to pursue core academic credits that mirror the TOPS Core curriculum.Students planning on attending a 4-year college or University should pursue the TOPS University Pathway. These students are actively striving to meet proficiency standards on LEAP tests and GPA & ACT requirements for TOPS and University admissions. TOPS University Diploma(Required for admission into a 4-year University) • Social Studies – 4 units • Civics • U.S. History Remaining 2 units shall come from the following: • World History; World Geography or AP Human Geography; or AP Psychology • Health – ½ unit • Health or Naval Science (ROTC I & II) • Physical Education – 1 ½ units • PE or Naval Science (ROTC I & II) • Foreign Language – 2 units • French I & II or Spanish I & II • Arts – 1 unit • Fine Arts Survey, Art I, Band, or Drafting • Electives – 3 units TOTAL – 24 • English – 4 units • English I • English II • English III • English IV • Math – 4 units • Algebra I • Geometry • Algebra II • Advanced Math Functions & Statistics • Science – 4 units • Biology I • Chemistry Remaining 2 units shall come from the following: • Physical Science, Biology II, Environmental Science, Physics, or Agriscience II Academic institution promoting High expectations resulting in Successful students Assumption High School

TOPS The TOPS University Diploma requirements also fulfill the core curriculum requirements for the TOPS award! • TOPS is a scholarship that pays for college tuition and can be used at any public University in the state of Louisiana for up to 4 years (8 semesters). The TOPS scholarship can also be used to pay a portion of tuition at private/independent colleges and universities in the state of Louisiana. Academic institution promoting High expectations resulting in Successful students • There are 3 different award levels of TOPS based on student achievement: OPPORTUNITY: Core GPA – 2.50 ACT score – 20+ (basic tuition) HONORS: Core GPA – 3.50 ACT score – 27+ (basic tuition + stipend) PERFORMANCE: Core GPA – 3.25 ACT score – 23+ (basic tuition + stipend) ** The state may change TOPS requirements each year. Jump Start TOPS Tech Diploma(Does not meet University admission requirements) • Science – 2 units • Biology I • Physical Science, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or AgriscienceII • Social Studies – 2 units • Civics • U.S. History • Health – ½ unit • Health or Naval Science (ROTC I & II) • Physical Education – 1 ½ units • PE or Naval Science (ROTC I & II) • Jump Start Pathway Electives – 9 units • Must pass required credentialing tests Total – 23 units • English – 4 units • English I • English II Remaining 2 units shall come from the following: • English III, English IV, Technical Writing, or Business English • Math – 4 units • Algebra I Remaining 3 units shall come from the following: • Geometry, Math Essentials, Financial Literacy, Business Math, Algebra II, or Advanced Math Academic institution promoting High expectations resulting in Successful students Assumption High School

  7. TOPS Tech The Jump Start TOPS Tech Diploma requirements also fulfill the core curriculum requirements for the TOPS Tech award! Academic institution promoting High expectations resulting in Successful students • TOPSTech is a scholarship that pays for tuition for up to 2 years (4 semesters) at approved Louisiana Technical Schools, Community Colleges, and Proprietary Schools that offer technical (non-academic) programs.   8. LEAP 2025 Exams Along with completing either the TOPS University Diploma or the Jump Start TOPS Tech Diploma, students must also pass LEAP 2025 exams in order to graduate! LEAP also factors into a student’s final grade in that course. Students must pass 3 LEAP exams from the following (1 from each category): - English I or English II - - Algebra I or Geometry - • Biology I or US History – Achievement levels: Passing: Advanced (A), Mastery (B), Basic (C) , Approaching Basic (D) Not Passing: Unsatisfactory (F) Academic institution promoting High expectations resulting in Successful students Assumption High School

Honors Placement Students will be scheduled for Honors and Advanced Placement (AP) classes in the core subjects they qualify for based on LEAP (public) or Aspire (non-public) scores in each area AND final course grades. Advanced or Mastery on LEAP AND an A or B final class grade Students who qualify for honors courses will also be scheduled for Fine Arts Survey.   10. Remediation Placement Students will automatically be scheduled for remediation classes in Math and English based on LEAP scores. Students who are in need of remediation courses will be promoted to Transitional 9th Grade (T9). 8th Graders should score at least a “Basic” achievement level in either English Language Arts or Math and at least an “Approaching Basic” in the other subject to be promoted to 9th Grade.   11. Transcripts and Ranking ALL courses taken for high school credit, including Edgenuity and those taken in middle school, will be on your child’s official high school transcript! Academic institution promoting High expectations resulting in Successful students This can affect class ranking, GPA, TOPS eligibility and college admission! All Edgenuity courses must be completed by last day of 8th grade for high school credit. After this date, all progress will be purged, and students will not be allowed to continue on their courses the following school year. Assumption High School

Grade Promotion Students are promoted based on the number of units they earn each school year Freshman: 0 – 5 units Sophomore: 6 – 11 units Junior: 12 – 17 units Senior: 18+ units Refer to the Parish Pupil Progression Plan yearly for the most accurate requirements. *** Number of units alone does not indicate if a student is on track to graduate.*** Academic institution promoting High expectations resulting in Successful students Assumption High School

  13. Registration Process Students entering AHS from BRM, LMS, NMS, and PPE will automatically be transferred into our system. Folders and records will be sent to us directly from your school. • Any educational custody renewals need to be submitted before the first day of school. • All other students should submit registration documents during our new student registration week, which is tentatively scheduled for July 22 – 25. Choosing your 9th grade courses(Most courses will be assigned based on 8th grade test scores and performance) • Fill out all the information in the top box. • Indicate your interest in enrollment in honors classes. We will not place your child in honors, even if they qualify, if you do not check the course. • Choose between PE/Health or ROTC for the Physical Education requirement. • Read the course descriptions and flow chart on the back of the pagefor help in selecting electives. • Choose your electives. NUMBER your choices 1, 2, and 3. Number 1 should be your first choice, and will be the class that we will try our best to put in your 9th grade schedule! • Please let us know what diploma pathway you see your child pursuing. • Sign and date the bottom. • Turn in your schedule proposal to the designated teacher at your school.
