Avoiding duplicated queries in 11aq Date: 2014-01-20 Authors: Ping FANG, Huawei
Abstract If existing GAS frames are used, when an 11aq-STA wants to find a service, it will send query to APs around it one by one in unicast. Then for APs belong to the same ESS, this will cause duplicated queries to the same service server. And the duplicated queries will be wasted. This contribution discussed this issue and possible optimized options. Ping FANG, Huawei
AP overlap cases Server/Proxy Query Query AP1 Response Response AP2 STA Ping FANG, Huawei
Duplicated Queries AP1 and AP2 connect to same Server STA AP1 AP2 Server/ Proxy Query (using unicast GAS Request) Service Query Service Query response Response (using unicast GAS Response) Duplicated query for the same service Query (using unicast GAS Request) Service Query Service Query response Response (using unicast GAS Response) Ping FANG, Huawei
Possible Solutions to Avoid Duplicated Queries • Option 1: allowing 11aq-STAs to broadcast GAS frames • Need to study if there is any impact on legacy STAs’ behavior • Duplicated response could still be there • Option 2: 11aq APs indicates if they are connected to the same server/proxy Ping FANG, Huawei
Straw Poll 1 Do you support that TGaq develop a mechanism to enable a STA to avoid duplicated queries when multiple APs in the same area are connected to the same server/proxy? Yes: No: Need more information: Ping FANG, Huawei
Straw Poll 2 Do you support allowing broadcasted GAS frames (GAS Request and GAS Response frames) in 11aq? Yes: No: Need more information: Ping FANG, Huawei
Straw Poll 3 Do you support that 11aq APs indicates if they are connected to the same server/proxy? Yes: No: Need more information: Ping FANG, Huawei
