  3. Designing Your Own Webpage Questions you might be thinking • Is it expensive? • Is it time consuming? • Do I have the tech savvy? • Will it benefit my students and me? • What crazy things do I have to do to create my own web site?

  4. Okay, what’s up? What do I have to do and know about creating a webpage? When you create your website with Weebly YOU DON’T NEED: • Special software • A web host for your domain • File transfer host • Special permissions • Advertising to stay alive Voted one of Time Magazine’s 50 Best Websites

  5. Just Remember: Keep it very simple at first! • Keep it very simple at first! Start with a simple format and add elements little by little as you get more comfortable with it. • You don’t have to be a Tech Genius to create your own website • Your web site can save you paper and time. (students can view the lesson or download the homework/files) • Update at anytime from anywhere

Two Forms of Weebly(Weebly and Education Weebly) • They are exactly the same, except Education Weebly gives your students the opportunity to design their own web page under your supervision and form submissions. Education Weebly Regular Weebly Weebly allows you to create a class website plus 40 student sites! Weebly allows you to create your own class website

Benefits of Education Weeblyfor Teachers • Create a classroom website & blog • Manage your students’ accounts • Accept homework assignments online • Keep your parents up to date • Upload your Syllabus • Post Art Work • Add Links from the internet • Put instructional videos & Power Points in your website • Blogs • Links • Homework documents • PowerPoint presentations • Web Quests • Podcasts • Maps (Google, etc.) • Videos • Photos • Class Schedule • Calendars • Animation • Clipart (Make sure you have permission and/or Copywrite permission. Don’t forget about the Copywrite Laws

  9. One thing to Remember When Adding Text • Weebly does not have a spelling and grammar check! It’s best to type your text in a word program first, then copy & paste. Weebly will put a squiggly line underneath the word if they think you misspelled a word. Sample

  11. Let’s Get Started! • Go to www.mrswalz.com • Click on either • Education WeeblyWebsite (brown tab) Regular Weebly Website (green tab)

  12. To get started Create a unique user name Create a password Put in your email address

  13. Now click on “CREATE A WEBSITE” Input your name, school, school district, country and state. Then submit

  14. You will be prompted to name your site and label what type of site it is.

  15. This screen will prompt you to choose your URL address. • You can either: • Register a New Domain - You must pay for this yearly • Use a Domain you already own • Use a Subdomain of Weebly.com (Free) - Let’s use this today, you can always purchase and change your domain’s name later.

  16. Try putting in a name in the top part and see if it is available. Hit continue. (Once again, you can change this easily later). Watch video

  17. Now it’s time for the FUN! Let’s Get Creative!!!!

  18. Choose your theme!

  19. Things to consider…… • Do you want a header image? • Do you want a half header image? • Don’t fret, changing your theme is very easy, so just pick one you like for now and change it later.

  20. Click on all themes on the side if you are in the older version. Note there are a lot of pages of themes. Just click one you like for now, you can change it later when you have more time.

  21. Some of the theme can change color. Click on a color to see what it looks like. Preview theme with your Heading first.

  22. If you like it, then click on “Use Theme”, if not, click on cancel

  23. The header can be different on each page. Weebly has a built-in editing tools to make the picture fit. Watch as I demonstrate how to change a picture. www.weebly.com or http://education.weebly.com Note: Some come up in the new Beta version and some will be in the old version. They are basically the same and soon all will be in the new version.

  24. Hover over the picture • Find the edit image • Click on edit image

  25. Click on add image

  26. Find your clipart, • Use one of their photos or • Drag it to the box or • Click on upload a photo from your computer

  27. Resize it by dragging from one corner & position it where you want it.

  28. Add another clipart or if you want to change the background, click on the background to change it

  32. Publish

  33. The BUILD tab (Beta Version) or Elements (Old Version) at the top enables you to add content to your page. Simply drag-and-drop each element you want to add to a page (I’ll demonstrate)

  34. Once you added element to the page, click to edit. Type in the titles and paragraphs, and click the image box to upload an image you would like to include.

  35. Use the Publish button frequently to update your changes! Saving is automatic otherwise

  36. To Add Another Page • Click on the Pages Tab at the top of the page

  37. Click on Add Page, Name the page, and choose the layout (I’ll demonstrate)

  38. This page also allows you to put your pages/menu in the order you want. The pages shifted over to the right are part of a drop-down menu. The way your menu appears is dictated by your theme choice.

  39. Add files • Insert text or a picture (clipart), highlight the picture or words and click on the chain link icon. You can now either Add a website URL Link to another webpage Upload a file Link to an email address

  41. Add your students • When you sign in go to the “My Students” tab • Click Add a Class (set preferences) • Input students – print out students user name and passwords. • Give students the sign in login website to work on their websites. • Students.weebly.com

Upgrade to Pro Education Weebly General Weebly • 5 MG file uploading space limit is upgraded to 100 MB • Pages can be password protected • An easy-to-use video player • An easy-to-use audio player • 10 sites per account (Free allows for 2) • More stats • Weebly footer removed • Embed documents on your pages

  43. Weebly for Education • http://education.weebly.com • Has added features geared toward teachers, such as form submissions • Students can create websites too (up to 40) • Teachers can sign students up and password protect pages • You can create a blog with moderated comments

  45. Mobile Devices • Click next to PUBLISH to see what your webpage looks like on a mobile device.

  46. Add a Video? • Just click on the media section of the elements and put in your URL

  47. SLIDESHOW • Drop and drag the slideshow element onto your page. Drag and drop the pictures you want in the slideshow.

  48. Map • Drag and drop the map element on your page. Put in the address and the map will appear

  49. Add an Avatar • Sign up to Voki for a free avatar account • Copy the embedded code from Voki and past into your HTML Weebly element. http://walzweebly.weebly.com/

  50. Add a PowerPoint • Slideshare is a free PowerPoint web site that allows you to download your presentations. • Embed your PowerPoint into your Weebly Site using the HTML element • OR you can use file element and download your PowerPoint • http://www.slideshare.net/
