2. Disclosure The presenter is a Co-Inventor of an educational electronic health record that was purchased by Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins in December 2010. The presenter remains a consultant on the modifications and revisions of the EHR owned by LWW. This presentation will discuss how EHRS might be used to meet informatics competencies including rationale and strategies, not particular products.

6. Informatics? Definitions “Combining nursing science, information management science, and computer science to manage and process nursing data, information, and knowledge to deliver quality care to the public.” (HRSA, 2008). “Facilitates the integration of data, information, and knowledge to support patients, nurses, and other providers in their decision-making in all roles and settings.” ANA (2008).

8. And what does this mean for nursing? Future of Nursing Leading Change Nursing must educate future professionals to deliver patient centered care as members of an interprofessional team, emphasizing evidence based practice, quality improvement approaches, and informatics (IOM, 2003b).
