I will: • Collate the results of the survey with the other members of the class. • Write an evaluation of the findings of the survey. • Identify a way in which I, and my class peers, can help to improve the school environment. • Construct a cause and effect chart relating to the problem within the school environment that we are going to try and tackle. • Identify who could help to reduce the amounts of litter within school and explain how it is that they could help. 1a; 1i; 2a; 2b; 2c; 3a; 3b

  8. Waste Facts • Every hour in Britain enough waste is produced in Britain to fill a football stadium. • Sometimes waste is put into landfills. This means that waste is put into large pits or holes such as disused mines or quarries. • Landfill keeps the rubbish out of sight but there are worries that dangerous chemicals from the waste can seep through the rocks into the water supply. There are worries of a health risk to those living near the landfill sites. We are running out of landfill sites. Britain is required under European law to significantly reduce the amount of waste sent for landfill. • Incineration is an alternative to landfills. Incineration means burning rubbish in specially built incinerators. The heat produced is used to generate electricity. People worry that dangerous gases may be released from these incinerators
