What Do You Need? • 2 composition books • A pencil • Highlighters • Colored pencils • Glue stick • Tape
Right Side • Teacher Provides New Info • Class Notes • Handouts • Book notes • Video notes • Labs • Vocabulary
Left Side • Student Processes New Info • Reorganize new info • Drawings • Concept maps • Poems • Reflective writing • Questions • Make connections
Remember • Title and Date Every Page • Every left side page gets used. • Always use color – it helps the brain learn. • Organize information – it helps the brain learn.
8 Page Numbering • Number EVERY page. • Odd numbers in upper left • Even numbers in upper right.
For the LEFT side. • Before learning, students can ask questions. • Ask “What’s my purpose for learning this?” • What do I already know about this topic?
For the LEFT side. • After learning, students can summarize. • What’s the BIG picture here? • What are the “expert” questions?
For the LEFT side. • How can I draw this information? • What information is important here?
For the LEFT side. • How can I organize this information? • How can I paraphrase and summarize this information?

Why Keep anINTERACTIVE Notebook? • Just writing down notes does not guarantee students have learned the information.

Notebook Grading • Notebooks will be graded on: • Thoroughness • Quality • Organization, • Visual appearance, and • Making connections to other subjects.
Visual Appearance • Very Important • BE NEAT! • Key ideas should be in color or highlighted. • EVERY LEFT side must be used. • Your artistic talent should be visible throughout the notebook.
