The Cycle in the Book of Judges Israelites disobey & follow after false gods God allows foreign nations to oppress His people God hears their cry & raises up a judge to deliver them The Israelites repent and put away false gods
A Little Background Info… Judges 21:25 “In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes.”
1 & 2 Samuel 3 Central Characters: Samuel, Saul, and David 1 Samuel 8:19 “the people refused to listen to the voice of Samuel, and they said, ‘No, but there shall be a king over us, That we may be like all the nations...’”.
1 Samuel 15 I. Saul’s Responsibility (vv.1-7) “The Lord sent me to anoint you as king over His people; now therefore, listen to the words of the Lord.” (v.1b)
Three Elements that made Saul’s kingship unique: 1. It was the Lord that made Saul king. 2. King Saul had to submit to Samuel. 3. The people over whom Saul reigned were not his people but God’s people.
