Evidence of Common Ancestry • Homologous Structures: Body part of organisms that are similar in structure and placement, but different in function • Each species evolved to use the structures differently to suit their environments
Linking Evolution to the Environment • Evolution can be caused due to environmental changes • As the Earth changed, life on Earth changed as well • If the environment changes, species must either adapt or they do not survive (become extinct) • Species with adaptations that are suited to the environment survive and pass their traits on
