INTRODUCTION • Used the TYPO3 Content Management System (CMS) to build a website for the College of Natural and Social Sciences.
What is CMS? According to typo3.com, Content Management System refers to a piece of software running on a server. Usually a database application, a CMS makes it easy to publish and manage large data and multimedia content.
Why is CMS important? • Easy to create and maintain many types of powerful web sites for programmers and non-programmers. • Cost efficient • Less time consuming • Relatively most web sites have the same basic structure (It simplifies routine tasks) • User Management, Permissions, Database Access
Environment • Operation System – Windows XP • Web Server – IIS • Technologies – PHP4 – HTML • Database – MySQL
Development Tools • Code • Rich-Text Editor • Macromedia Dreamweaver • Graphic • Adobe Photoshop
CMS MODULE OVERVIEW • Web Module consists of: - Page content(edit page content) - View page (current page) - List (database records) - Info (page related info, hit statistics, log,etc.) - Access (page editing permissions) - Functions (advanced functions) - Template (template tools)
MODULE OVERVIEW CONT’D User consists of : - Task Center (overviews,mesg, ToDo lists) Tools consists of : - Db Check (database integrity check) - Log (viewing log) - phpMyAdmin (database admin)
