  1. MSFW Enumeration Study Agriculture Workforce Housing Facilitation Team May 24th, 2018 Oregon Primary Care Office

  2. Overview • Migrant Health 101 • Why OHA needs the MSFW data • Methodology (Molly) • Questions and Discussion

  3. MIGRANT HEALTH 101 • Thousands of migrant and seasonal farmworkers, and related family members, support Oregon’s multi-billion dollar agricultural industry. • Most of these workers and their families do not have health care coverage through their employer. • As a result, migrant and seasonal farmworkers experience higher rates of specific health problems such as diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease and cancer than most other Oregonians. • In response to this need, the federal government, through the Bureau of Primary Health Care, has set aside funding for health centers that serve the migrant and seasonal farmworker community.

  4. Challenges • MSFW and their families face unique health challenges which result in significant health disparities • Hazardous work environment • Poverty and insufficient support systems/Lack Transportation. • Inadequate or unsafe housing • Inadequate healthcare access • Continuity of care issues • Lack of insurance • Cultural and language barriers • Fear of using healthcare due to immigration status

  5. What do we do with the data on MSFW? • 30% of Oregon’s community health centers are federally recognized as Health Care for the Homeless locations and 33% are designated as Migrant Health Centers. • Health professional shortage designations. • Make it available to other divisions of OHA • Make it available to all other CBO that work with MSFW • Other.
