The Church possesses the authority • To bind= to separate from the community • To loose = to lift the ban or reunite to the community • Given to Peter as the head of the Church • Mt 16: 15-19 • This authority was the first gift of the resurrection • (Jn 20: 21-23 • Not a new Concept • Luke 17: 11-15
While there are many good reasons to go to the Sacrament of reconciliation • The Number one reason is; • Obedience to God’s will • One needs to go through the Church to be • forgiven of Serious sin • Reconciled to God • Restored to the community • This is the way Jesus set it up. • through the Catholic Priesthood Jesus made it possible to be personally present to the repentant sinner for the forgiveness of there sins.
“There will be more joy in Heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need repentance" Lk.15:7,22-25
