Village Development Committee Survey • Our NGO partner (Namsaling Community Development Center) has expressed interest in projects focusing on the following areas based on the VDC surveys and remaining items in the plan of action: • Quality of drinking water • Water source protection • Irrigation canals • Hydro canal • Energy efficient households (electricity, cook stoves, biogas) • Waste water treatment/drainage • The community appraisal will focus on these problems and potential solutions. Sustainable Community Development 2009/2010 Mabu, Nepal Team • Previous SCD team identified high incidence of waterborne disease as most critical problem for Mabu. • Latrine construction selected as the best solution for this problem • Collaborated with Engineers Without Borders (EWB) Haifa-Technion Chapter and Biogas Sector Partnership – Nepal (BSP-Nepal) to construct biogas digesting latrines • Provide energy source for community in addition to addressing problem of waterborne disease • Behavior change communication program developed to supplement latrine construction and help ensure sustainability of solution • Traveled to Mabu to complete actual construction of latrines Previous Work Mabu, Nepal “High Goals, Low Expectations”
