B. Pick up our study in Matthew. 1. The Pharisees are upset. a) He works on the Sabbath. b) Matthew 12:34-37 (1) Their words betrayed them!
(2) This is where Jesus drew the line! II. Matthew 12:38 A. Luke 11:16 1. Not a sincere request. a) These want a sign from “heaven”.
(1) They call Him “Teacher.” (2) Until they call Him “Savior” – they missed the point! III. Matthew 12:39 A. They asked for a sign.
1. Jesus saying THEY are evil and adulterous. 2. Relationship with the Lord compared to a good marriage. a) If relationship was pure they would not need a sign. b) A look at His death.
IV. Matthew 12:40 A. They do not understand! V. Matthew 12:41 A. When Jonah was running from the Lord.
1. They were not worth saving! a) The Pharisees would not listen nor repent. VI. Matthew 12:42 A. 1 Kings chapter 10 – the Queen of Sheba.
1. He gave Solomon that wisdom. 2. Jesus thinking about the wicked generation! VII. Matthew 12:43-45 A. Reformation without death and resurrection!
1. Trying to be good without being born again. 2. No evil spirit can possess a Christian. a) 2Corinthians 6:14-16 b) In reference to the unsaved! (1) Without Jesus in its place – it will return!
(a) Being “good” not the same as born- again! (b) Pharisees trying to be good according to the Law ! VIII. CONCLUSION A. Matthew 12:46-50
1. Jesus drives home His point. a) There is a spiritual bond between the Lord and His children! (1) They are not His family! (2) The disciples example of His true family!
(a) They didn’t need a sign. 2. Which “camp” do you find yourself in? a) “I won’t believe until I see a sign.” b) “I don’t need a sign!”
