United Nations Conference on Trade and Development Teaching of natural resources and development • Use of the material encouraged • No fee • Acknowledgement of UNCTAD’s authorship • Information to be provided to the Virtual Institute about the use of the material (in what courses, what experience, suggestions for improvement…) • Vi teaching material • Entire material or its parts can be used in existing courses • A specialized course can be developed on the topic • Adaptation of the material to the country context recommended
United Nations Conference on Trade and Development Vi mentored research projects for LDCs (1) • Support provided by the Vi • 4 research grants of up to USD 4’500 each • Mentoring from a substance matter expert throughout the project • Expected outcome • A publishable article submitted to a journal • A paper/material submitted to a government ministry/agency
United Nations Conference on Trade and Development Vi mentored research projects for LDCs (2) • Who can apply? • Workshop participants from the Least Developed Countries • 1 official contractor; involvement of policymakers encouraged; other contributors can be associated under internal arrangements with the contractor • Timeframe • Submission of proposals by 3 September 2010 • Selection of sponsored proposals by 20 September 2010 • Contracts issued by end-October 2010 • Full completion of the project by 31 May 2011
United Nations Conference on Trade and Development Vi mentored research projects for LDCs (3): Selection criteria • Topic of policy relevance to the applicant’s country • Methodology clear, objectives and timeframe achievable • Contribution to the personal development of the researcher and the research work of the university or institute • Use of the end-product thought through • If use as an academic article, where to be published? • If use in policymaking, how will policymakers be involved in the research process? • If both academic and policymaking use, how to reach to both audiences?
