CIO Interoperability Summit • Recognized the value of NWCG governance structure and ability to address interagency tasks and projects. • Support for the Incident Communications Sub-Committee task group to address wireless communications • FS CIO Project Management support from Missoula and San Dimas Technology Development Center • Support the Radio Interoperability task team for testing solutions that address Trunked UHF/Legacy VHF interoperability • Summit Results: • Interagency Interoperability Oversight Group • Interagency Radio Alliance • NWCG interagency Wireless Task Team • Thin client project support

Interagency Interoperability Oversight Group (IIOG) • IIOG membership, charter, governance roadmap have moved forward since CIO summit • Next conference call December 2nd • January meeting set for membership determination and status report from identified projects &/or groups. (Jan 14 & 15) • Yet to determine standard operating procedures with NWCG supported projects (IT & Radio). • Project submission • Funding mechanisms

  5. Interagency Radio Alliance (IRA) Reports on Radio issues to the IIOG NWCG sponsored Incident Communications Sub-Committee will have representation on the IRA Draft Charter and membership under development and due to IIOG at their January meeting 6

Wireless Task Team Membership Coordinating with Incident Based Automation (IBA) Project Incorporates the DOI Wireless Prototype Study Coordinating with the Thin Client project Coordinating with the Situational Awareness Firefighting Equipment (SAFE) project Incorporates the Automated Input report on bar codes, RFID and scanning devices Includes radio communication technician NIICD representation

Cell on Wheels and wireless/broadband capabilities at the incident Verizon presentation on availability and ordering options of Significant Event Response Team (SERT) Fall 08 Non-incident testing at MTDC thin client test lab (Winter 08/09) Develop incident package for optimum use of COW/SERT Wireless Group Tasks 9

Radio Communication Task Team Status Report • Project Leader Brad Bolen’s detail has expired • Delay on delivery of software defined radios to field test • Recommend continuation of the project • Have commitment for the radios from vender/DHS • Supported by Interagency Radio Alliance • Take advantage of interagency partnerships that Brad has developed • Working with BLM radio division and others on a task team transition plan

NMAC September brief on radios • NMAC received letter from Northern Rockies GMAC with concerns on radio infrastructure • NMAC requested a report from Radio Communication Task Group Chair • September briefing on actions taken since the 06 Area Command Study • Method/type of response if necessary

Summary CIO recognition of NWCG governance structure and opportunities to address interagency interoperability concerns for radio and information technology CIO’s adopt a interagency governance structure called the Interagency Interoperability Oversight Group Develop methodology to submit pilot project (s) and/or tasking Develop methodology to go from idea/proof of concept/implementation Provide resources to support tasks IIOG sponsors the Interagency Radio Alliance Incident Communications Sub-Committee membership on the IRA Reminder of the letter to NMAC and status report from RCTG chair on actions taken since the Area Command Report prior to the CIO Interoperability Summit 16
