WHO I AM By: Erica L. Shimboff
Way Back When… • I was born at St. Anthony Hospital in Effingham, IL on January 22, 1981. I grew up in Effingham until about the age of nine when my family moved to Terre Haute, Indiana. I spent the next nine years learning and growing in Indiana.
And Then… • Then when I was a senior in high school my family moved back to Effingham, IL. I graduated high school and went onto Lake Land College to receive my Associates degree in Science.
And Now… • I am currently a senior at Eastern Illinois University. I am an Elementary Education Major with a concentration in Mathematics. I will be graduating in May of 2006, and hope to find a job in the Effingham, IL area.
Father Time • My father, Phil, lives in Bel Air, Maryland and works in maintenance at a large plant near Baltimore. He comes back to Effingham, IL. to visit quite often. As I have grown up, my father has become one of my dearest friends. I admire his ethics and strongly value his opinion. He has always believed in me, and I will forever be thankful for that.
Mother Nature • My mother, Marilynn, lives in Effingham, IL. She is my roommate and my best friend. My mother is someone I consider indescribable. She has strength, beauty and intellect – yet these terms do not touch the vision I have of her. She has been my support, my mother and my friend.
Twisted Sister • I have one sister, Mandy. She will shortly be turning 21 years old. My sister and I are polar opposites. She is what some may call the “Wild Child”. She can be rebellious, but her good characteristics far exceed her negative tendencies. Mandy is a strong person, a loyal friend and a faithful sister. She is my oldest friend – for as other relationships grew to friendship – she was my friend from the start.
Here Kitty, Kitty, Kitty… • My family would not be complete without the mention of my cat Caleb. I have had Caleb since he was five weeks old, and he will be turning six this May. He pretty much runs the house, unless he decides to take the day off and let us have a say in things
Good Versus Evil (The Good) LIKES: • Attending church with my family • Going to the movies • Reading Entertainment magazines • Math • Friends and Family • Sleep (Rare Luxury )
Good Versus Evil (The Not So Good) DISLIKES: • Getting up early • Country music • Science • Walking around campus in the rain • Remembering I forgot to do something for school while I am getting ready for bed (and having to do it!) = A lot of late nights!
Favorites • Number: Two • Color: Purple • Subject: Math • Restaurant: Red Lobster • Music: 80’s (Don’t Ask) • Animal: Turtle • State: Florida • Vacation: Jamaica
Yet To Come… There are some things I’d like to do, but haven’t gotten to yet (Not an any particular order): • GRADUATE!! (with honors) • Become a teacher • Become a wife and a mother • Visit Australia, Greece and Ireland • Discover a cure for something • Live on the beach • Scuba Dive
My Passion I can’t imagine myself being anything except a teacher. I have taken the morals and values from my parents and hope to portray those in my life and in my profession. I want to work with children, but more importantly I want to affect their lives. I want to leave at the end of each day knowing that I may have opened a door, for a child, that may have otherwise stayed closed.
That’s All Folks… • You know my age, my family, my dreams, my hopes and my passion – I guess there’s nothing left to tell. Hope you learned a lot. BYE
