Wilton House First Wilton House was a nunnery. But under Henry VIII, who founded the Anglican Church, the nunnery was dissolved. He gave this house to his friend Will Herbert, the Earl of Pembroke, who pulled it down and rebuilt it in 1544. Now it’s the home of the 17th Earl of Pembroke. The house contains various old master paintings, furniture and classical sculptures; you can also enjoy a walk along the River Nadder or through the Old English Rose Garden.
