  2. Directorate: Strategic Management Support What is a Data Warehouse? • A Data Warehouse (DW) is a database used for reporting and data analysis. It is a central repository of data which is created by integrating data from one or more different sources.

  3. Directorate: Strategic Management Support General Reporting challenges • Most of the data is stored in ITS, which is difficult for end-users to access • The data stores were designed for transaction processing not reporting • Obtaining the data or a report usually requires waiting for a programmer to develop the report • End-users do not have the knowledge of what is kept in the existing data stores.

Directorate: Strategic Management Support Advantages of the ITS Views Data Warehouse • Operational tables and views are linked in the back-end, and presented on the front-end in a way that makes sense to the user • Improved and timely end-user access to a wide variety of University data • Providing a platform to combine related data from separate sources • Increased Query and System Performance • Enhanced Business Intelligence
