  3. Pros • Consumers making better choices • Restaurants will add healthier options • People are eating out more often • Most restaurant food is high in empty calories • Ex: Whopper meal at Burger King over 2,000 calories

  4. Cons • Forcing restaurants to post information • Only applies to 10% of restaurants • Consumers can go elsewhere • You can inform them but they may still make poor decisions

  5. Evidence • Transaction data from Starbucks • Calories purchased declined by 6% • Low income people in NYC vs. New Jersey • No difference in amount of purchased calories

  6. Mediation • Calories should be required • Not a First Amendment Violation • Must be on all restaurant menus not just some • It can’t hurt anyone to be informed
