Physical Characteristics • Sea otters are four feet long with brown and white fur. Females weigh around forty-five pounds and males weigh around sixty-five pounds.
Lifespan • Males live until they are ten to fifteen years old. Females live around fifteen to twenty years.
Eating Habits and Diet • Sea otters are carnivores because they eat clams, urchins, mussels, crabs, and snails.
Population • There are around 2,800 sea otters near California. There are between 64,600 and 77,300 near Alaska, Canada, and Washington.
Habitat/Range • Sea otters live in the ocean near California, Washington, Alaska, Canada, Russia, and Japan.
Adaptations • Feet • Teeth • Thick Fur • They use their feet to grab hold of prey and swim fast. • They use their teeth to rip open their food and chew. • Their thick fur keeps them warm.
