  1. FIA Session “Management and Governance in Future Internet” Alex Galis University College London a.galis@ee.ucl.ac.uk

  2. Preparation for FIA Short position statement • Common position on the necessary and prioritised research challenges and reference configurations; • Reference management architectures and infrastructures; alternate paths Prepare the “Management and Governance” session for FIA workshop in Madrid 9-10 December 2008 WIKI : http://services.future-internet.eu/index.php/Management_and_governance

  3. Governance Management Managed Systems

  4. FIA Management & Governance Systems Goals Setting Self- Aware Self- Adapvtive Service/Network Programmability Framework and Interface Service Management FCAPS Management Services Automatic Self-* Virtual Services Infrastructure Virtual Networks Infrastructure Connectivity Services Physical Resource Storage Computation Networking

  5. 6. Management and Governance - Cross Domain Working Topics (1) • Define cross-domain Management functions (i.e. networks, services, content) and cross-layers cooperative FI systems design for integrated management functionality, including: system lifecycle- , monitoring- , (re)configuration- , optimisation- , organisation- , performance- , adaptation- , context- , semantic- , security- , composition- , assurance- , negotiation- , repository- , SLA- , QoS- , billing, X- • Imbedding management functionality in all FI systems (i.e. InInfrastructures management, InNetworks management, InServices management, InContent management) • Define Ubiquitous Virtual Resources - integrated and flexible usage of heterogeneous and assumable virtual resources for energy, networking, computation, storage, content, mobility, etc.

  7. Management and Governance - Cross Domain Working Topics (2) • Dynamic deployment of (new)management functionality without interruption of FI systems’ operation (i.e. Pug-and-Play, UnPlug-and-Play, programmability) • Self-contextualisation for FI systems, services and resources • FI Autonomicity and Self-awareness; • Minimise life-cycle FI system costs & minimise energy footprint • Orchestration and integration of management functionality

  8. Management and Governance - Cross Domain Working Approach & Results Approach: • Leverage and influence effort in existing FP7 projects Expected Results ( by Dec 2008) : • Identify key directions for future research projects • Common position(s) on the necessary and prioritised research challenges and reference configurations; • Reference management architectures and infrastructures; alternate paths • Define management of virtualised FI systems and services

  9. Management and Governance –Cross Domain WG • Setup at the Bled Future Internet Conference • Consider ourselves a ServiceNetwork-centric cross-domain WG • Tackle cross domain issues • Encourage cross domain membership • Link to other WGs and Unit collaboration mechanisms (e.g. NEXOF-RA for services; eMobility Services) • WIKI : http://services.future-internet.eu/index.php/Management_and_governance
