NC EOG Test of Reading Comprehension • The length of the test requires students to maintain attention on reading for approximately two hours. • Most children are not prepared to read for such an extended length of time. • Students need to build reading endurance and stamina. • Encourage your child to read at home for a minimum of 45 minutes daily. • Talk to your child about what they are reading to ensure they are actively reading for meaning.
Provide Encouragement • Most of the items on the math EOG are multi-step problems. • Students often do not read the problem carefully, and make careless errors. • When working with your child on math, encourage slowing down and thinking about what is being asked in the problem. • Encourage perseverance. Many times students become frustrated and give up before they find the solution.
