Novel Unit – Final Project! Advertisement
Your mission, should you choose to accept it…. • will be creating 1 advertisement. • Will be creating 1 newscast (with a partner). • The purpose of both: to SELL the books you read. • Your job is to convince your audience (all of us – teacher, classmates) that YOUR book is one that they should read.
Your own commercial must include… • Elements of plot (exposition, rising action) - don’t give away the ending. • Theme (I.e.: The message I got from this story is…) • Your favorite line from the book (directly quoted). • Three reasons why we should read it. • The ad needs to be about 30 seconds long. Remember: both partners will create their OWN commercial.
Your segment will… • Requirements: • Include a show title (Book Talk, Book Chat, Library Lady, etc.) • Be a character from the book. • Include a script to give to your partner and they will interview you during that segment. (May be used during presentation.) • Include costumes. (optional) • Include props. (optional) • Include an intro to your show (including title, anchor, and/or music – be creative!) • Be video-taped at home OR presented live in class. • Be at least 2 minutes and no more than 4 minutes. • Follow the good speaking guidelines.
Good Speaking Guidelines • PREPARATION - Student was prepared for the presentation and remembered what he/she planned to say. The presentation appears to have been rehearsed and not improvised. • VOLUME - Student was loud enough for the whole class to hear. • SPEED/PACE - Student spoke at an appropriate pace. • POSTURE - Student demonstrated suitable posture. • EYE CONTACT - Student maintained eye contact with his/her audience. • EXPRESSION - Student presented with expression, as if he/she was interested in the information. The information was presented in a way that engaged the audience. • ORGANIZATION - Presentation follows a logical order and makes sense. Presentation has a beginning, middle and end.
