Course 6: Digital Factory Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality (VR&AR) PisutKoomsap, AIT AthakornKengpol, KMUTNB SupapanChaiprapat, PSU
2 Course Objective Digital Factory Utilization of digital technology for modeling, and communications to • configure • model • simulate • assess, and • operate a manufacturing process
3 Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs) Digital Factory
4 How this class is conducted: Learning Model • LOVE devised by D. Hussadintorn Na Ayutthaya, P. Koomsap, R.M. Lima, and T. Nitkiewicz
5 Teaching & Learning Methods for Module 2 Digital Factory II: Advanced Technologies in Digital Factory-Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality
6 Activity 1: Illustration of VR and AR technologies • University of Advancing Technology • VR vs AR • VR- AR difference • When IoT joins reality technologies • Medical applications • What kind of technology is this?
7 Activity 2-3: Review and discussion of VR/AR applications in the industry Share your ideas. Students search for applications of VR and AR in industry. • What contribution of VR and AR to digital factory? • Any connections between Cyber-Physical systems and VR-AR? • What would be future trends of these technologies? • Any suggestions on applications of VR and AR beyond what you have observed over the internet. https://www.ssim.ac.in/blog/how-to-prepare-for-group-discussion/
Activity 4: Theoretical Background of VR and AR Virtual Reality (VR) is a simulated environment generated by computer technology, allowing users to experience and interact with the seemingly physical objects in a situation intended by a designer. Special equipment include a helmet with a screen inside, gloves with sensors, and joint stick. Augmented Reality (AR) combines physical and computer-generated scenes and images to become a unified environment in order to enhance perception to the world. Special equipment include digital eyewear or screen and handheld devices. https://www.explainthatstuff.com/virtualreality.html https://www.ptc.com/en/products/augmented-reality
Activity 4: Theoretical Background of VR and AR In summary, the differences between VR and AR VR provides full immersion into a simulated world, while AR only overlays digital objects into a view of physical world. Closed headset or goggles are used for VR to block perception of the existing environment, while AR needs only an eyewear or a screen to display digital objects on the real surrounding background. Still confusing? Find out more about current technologies and discuss what they should be classified as, VR or AR. Activity 4: Theoretical Background of VR and AR How to make use of Industry 4.0 technologies to empower VR and AR in the following applications in digital factory ? Can you think of any other applications? • Marketing (interactive advertising) • Staff training • …. • https://techinsight.com.vn/language/en/some-combined-trends-autonomous-cars-drone-vr-ar-industry-4-0/
Activity 4: Theoretical Background of VR and AR Recent development in reality technologies is Mixed (Merged) Reality. It allows connection and interactions between the virtual and real or physical worlds. Challenge: With “Mixed Reality” technology, can you think of its innovative applications in the industry? https://www.extremetech.com/extreme/249328-mixed-reality-can-take-augmented-reality-mainstream
