  2. THE PURPOSE OF OUR LIVES • Introduction 1. Gen. 1:27 God created us in His image: He has a special purpose for our lives! 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

  4. THE PURPOSE OF OUR LIVES I. God Created Us to be His Companions & Friends A. He Created Man in His Image for a Purpose • Gen. 1:1-5 Created universe, & created light

  5. 1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. 3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. 4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. 5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night.   16. 24 And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so. 25 And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good. Find, Fear, Obey God: This Is the Whole of Man 1 The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem. 2 Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity. 3 What profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun? • Eccl. 1:1-3; 12:13 Solomon found the purpose of his life in God 13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

He Made Plants & Animals for Our Use • Gen. 1:26 Plants & animals serve our needs 26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

He Supplied All Man’s Needs in the Garden • Gen. 2:8-9 Three kinds of trees Trees: delicious food Tree: perpetuate life 8 And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed. 9 And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Tree: choose good or evil

He Supplied All Man’s Needs in the Garden • Gen. 2:16-17 Created man to live, warned sin brings death 16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: 17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

  25. 18 And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. 19 And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. 20 And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him. • Gen. 2:18-25 Joined Adam & Eve in marriage

God Gave the Gift of Marriage • 1 man & 1 woman: marriage companions for life • Heb. 13:4 Includes gift of sexual companionship 4 Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.

  29. 18 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord. 19 Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them. 20 Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord. 21 Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged. • Col. 3:18-21 Structured family to bless all

God Gave the Gift of Marriage • Violations of God’s plan destroy His blessings • Fornication: sex without marriage • Polygamy: multiple marriage mates • Adultery: married people having sex outside their marriage • Homosexuality: same sex partners

God Gave the Gift of Marriage • Violations of God’s plan destroy His blessings • Divorce: repudiating & leaving a mate • Abortion on demand: kill baby in womb to avoid loving & nurturing him/her • Conceiving babies without marriage • Verbal, physical, & sexual abuse in family

  33. 4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: 5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. 6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. • Gen. 3:4-6 Lied: presented sin as a blessing

Satan Lies to Lead Men to Disobey God • Gen. 3:8 Fellowship with God destroyed 8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.

  39. 4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. • Isa. 53:4-6 Die as a sacrifice for our sins

God Promised a Savior to Redeem Us • Jn. 3:16 Jesus Christ, the Savior! 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Jesus Christ Offers Salvation to All Men • Mk. 16:15-16 Receive it by obedient faith NOT: Baptized=Saved + Believe NOT: Believe=Saved + Baptized 15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

  47. 19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. • Gal. 5:19-23 Replace sin with fruit of the Spirit
