NTU Low Noise Amplifier Acceptance Testing Review Jerry Shiao National Taiwan University
NTU CA-1 LNA Issues • #57 did not power up • Noise figure peaks at 200, 250, 450, 750 and 850MHz • Some LNA noise levels are higher by 5 to 20K • Ratty noise temperature from 600 to 800MHz
NTU LNA NF Set-up • HP N8975A NF meter • HP 346C noise source • Four CA-1 LNAs are tested (one of these is modified to cover 50kHz) • Supply voltage is 5V
NF Test#1 1800MHz 940MHz 1850MHz 850MHz 200MHz 250MHz
Test#1 Results • 200 and 250 MHz peaks still appear in the shielded room • 850, 940, 1800 and 1850MHz disappear in the shielded room
NF Test#2 100MHz 200MHz 250MHz
Test#2 Results • 100, 200 and 250 MHz peaks decrease after tightening the input SMA connector contact ring.
Summary • LNA#57’s pin was not soldered properly • 850, 940, 1800 and 1850MHz noise peaks are from cell phone stations or cell phones. • 100, 200 and 250MHz noise peaks are probably from DDR-2 clocks of analyzer boards. • Ratty noise sources are still unclear.
