What is a typhoon and why is it so deadly? • A typhoon is a tropical storm that occurs in the western Pacific Ocean and is identical to the hurricanes of the Atlantic Ocean. It begins over warm seas and can have winds of more than 240 kilometers per hour. They begin slowly on a westward path, then increase speed and curve northward. Japan, south-eastern China and the Philippines are the areas most frequently affected by typhoons.
What happens after a typhoon? • As well as the huge loss of life, many thousands of people will be left without shelter, food and medical care. Many will be grieving for lost family and friends.
What can Patana do to help? • On Thursday, we will be holding a non-uniform Philippine Typhoon Awareness Day. On that day you can show your support for the people of the Philippines by wearing any combination of the colours of the Philippine flag: red, blue, yellow and white. We are suggesting a donation of 100 baht on the day.
Where will our money go? • Your money will go to an organisation which is on the ground helping with relief work and supplying food, shelter and healthcare for the typhoon survivors: The Philippine Red Cross.
