Objective Case • Within a given sentence, objective case pronouns (me, him, her, us, and them) relate to other words in various ways.
Objective Case In each instance, ignore or mentally delete the conjunction (usually and) and the other object, noun, or pronoun. We fed the neighbors andthem. They taught Jill and us a lesson. She gave the message to him and Mom. They wanted me and Christo stay. Ask John to tell him and Susan.
Objective Case • Errors in pronoun case often occur when a pronoun is used in conjunction with another noun. • Examples: • WRONG: They invited my husband and I for the weekend. • RIGHT: They invited my husband and me for the weekend. • When the extra words (my husband and) are omitted, the correct choice is easier to select: “They invited me for the weekend.”
