  1. Tanya WoodKCG Electronics LTD Negotiated Project Module title: Client ProjectModule code: MMPR30025

  2. Define your project concept. Justify your choice of project. Why is it relevant that you do the project in this way? (LO1, LO2, LO3) My client KCG Electronics is a Marine, Offshore, Military and Industrial Product Distributor specialising in the supply of Marine, Offshore Approved Generator controls. I have chosen to update their website for my negotiated project as this will enable me to develop both my web design and coding skills. They also require me to redesign their existing logo. For this particular project I wish to experiment with flat web design and also twitter bootstrap, again this will develop my existing skills further. The software I will use for this project will include: Notepad++, Twitter Bootstrap, Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.

  3. What is the purpose of the product? (LO2, LO3) My client KCG Electronics is a Marine, and Industrial Product Distributor. The KCG Electronics team provides full support of product sales, Technical Backup, System installations, retrofit solutions, commissioning and service/repair work. It is vital that company information, product information, services offered and contact details are clear to potential clients. The current site is unresponsive, has a poor layout, and has usability issues. My aim is to create a modern attractive responsive website that will help clearly convey the products available. This will assist the companies sales team members greatly.

  4. Current Product Website

  5. Decide five keywords that might be used as words that focus the conceptual approachof the project. (LO1, LO3) Responsive Marketing Design Usability Aesthetics

  6. Outline and discuss five existing most relevant sources that you are going to look at tohelp begin designing the project. (LO2) Source 1: Mantsbrite are a distributor of electrical equipment for marine, navy or commercial applications and offer similar products to KCG. The main thing about this website that I like it firstly you can immediately see by the use of the image that they have something to do with marine products. The layout is simple and the navigation is clear. This site is unresponsive though. Mantsbrite Distributors of marine navigation equipment, 2014 [online] Available at: http://www.mantsbrite.com/ [Accessed 24th January 2014].

  7. Source 2: Furno offer Marine navigation systems and a variety of other marine orientated products. The main header section for the site is simple and effect. However there is a lot of content on the site and it becomes a bit overwhelming when browsing the website. Furno.com, 2011 [online] Available at: http://www.furuno.com/en/index.html/[Accessed 24th January 2014].

  8. Source 3: Lane Electronics is a UK connector distributor to for military, medical, industrial, aviation and industrial industries, which is the same target audience as KCG. The site is simple and has a handy search function for clients to find products. FCLane.com, 2014 [online] Available at: http://www.fclane.com/ [Accessed 24th January 2014].

  9. Source 4:http://stylifyme.com by entering a websites address this website then provides an overview of the style guides of the site. Offers a good source of inspiration. stylifyme.com, 2014 [online] Available at: http://stylifyme.com/ [Accessed 24th January 2014].

  10. Source 5: To assist me with my logo design for KCG Electronics I found the above site very useful for advice on what points to consider when redesigning a logo. Logodesignlove.com, 2014 [online] Available at: http://www.logodesignlove.com/ [Accessed 16th December 2014].

  11. Show a prototype of an element key to the likely success of the project. This should besomething that you have created (LO2, LO3, LO4) I began sketching ideas of a logo for the company. I liked the military badges that I’d seen on a website. I thought about incorporating this shape into the K of the ‘KCG’ logo. This is a concept the client really liked.

  12. Project Prototype Logo Design

  13. Project Prototype Web Design Initial Web Design idea sketch. I knew that the client was keen in having a image slider in the header section. Another key requirement was to have a clear and simple product section, something which was lacking before.

  14. Project Prototype

  15. Discuss how you will be managing yourself during the duration of the module. (LO3,LO4) Key Project Dates: • Week 19- Initial project presentation. • Week 26- Upload your finalised Negotiated Project plan presentation to the NOW Dropbox by 8pm Friday 24/01/2014. • Week 27- Presentation. At this 15-minute presentation you are expected to discuss your project concept, present design ideas, visuals, prototypes and detail your project management plan. In order to immediately progress your project you will receive verbal feedback during this session. • By Week 30 you will have received some informal written feedback. • Week 40- Completed Negotiated Project and Digital Workbook submitted to W102 by noon.

  16. Show how you intend to allocate tasks and time to delivering your project. (LO2, LO3) Not only have do I use the NTU student calendar and brief project date as guides for time management. I also use Google Calendar as this allows me to set meetings, create tasks and set reminders so that I receive constant updates of what my deadlines are and what I should be doing on a daily/weekly basis. My completed client briefing document also has key tasks dates that both myself and the client have agreed for the project.

  17. Conclusions. How does your work so far inform your evaluation? (LO1, LO3) Now that I have completed the client briefing document and set up key meeting dates with the employer I can now used the information provided my the client to create initial sketches/wireframes/mock-ups of the website. Content, colour schemes and imagery have also been discussed so I can begin to design the site. In our next meeting we can then discuss further any issues or changes that are required.
