Common STD’s. Human Papillomavirus - HPV. Causes genital warts or an asymptomatic infection. Most common STD. 30 different types of HPV. There is no treatment. Most types of cervical cancer is caused by HPV. Genital Warts. They are pink and reddish warts that appear on the genitals.

  2. Human Papillomavirus - HPV • Causes genital warts or an asymptomatic infection. • Most common STD. • 30 different types of HPV. • There is no treatment. • Most types of cervical cancer is caused by HPV.

  3. Genital Warts • They are pink and reddish warts that appear on the genitals. • Genital warts are highly contagious. • May take 3 months for the warts to appear after becoming infected. • The person has the virus the rest of their life. • Treatment may rid the body of the warts but not the virus.

  4. Chlamydia • Bacterial infection that affects the reproduction organs of both males & females. • Can be treated with antibiotics but you can contract it again. • In females it can lead to PID if untreated.

  5. Genital Herpes • It is a disease caused by the herpes simplex virus. • There are two types • Type 1 – causes cold sores. • Type 2 – causes genital sores. • The virus can be spread even when they have no symptoms. • Once infected always infected. FOR LIFE !!

  6. Gonorrhea • Bacterial infection that affects the mucous membranes. • Found in females 15-19 and males 20-24. • Symptoms include a discharge from the genital area. • If untreated it can lead to infertility in both males and females. • Can be spread to the bloodstream and cause serious damage to a persons joints.

  7. Trichomoniasis • This is a microscopic protozoan that results in the infection of the vagina, urethra, and bladder. • It may result in vaginitis which is a inflammation of the vaginal area.

  8. Syphilis • A bacterial infection that attacks many parts of the body. • The first sign is usually a painless red sore that will heal on its own, however if the infection is not treated it will spread through the body via the bloodstream. • This will cause damage to the heart, liver, kidney and even lead to blindness.
