  2. How does a spring scale work? • A spring scale measures the force of gravity on an object. The basic unit of force is the Newton. Weight is a force. An objects weight is a measure of the force of gravity on the object. When you weigh an object, you are measuring the pull of gravity on the object.

  3. Using a spring scale • A spring scale is used to measure weight. A spring scale measures the force of gravity on an object. To use a scale attach a mass to the hook. The weight of the mass stretches the spring.

  4. Types of spring scales • There are many types of spring scales. A bathroom scale is a type of spring scale. When you stand on the scale, your weight pushes on a spring. The spring lines up the number on the circular scale with the pointer. Another type of spring scale is the one you see at the market. If you place several apples on the scale, the weight of the apples pull a spring. The spring turns the pointer to show the weight of the apples.
