Elders Health, Welfare and Security IDOR’s policy positions include the hungry being fed, the sick nourished, and the aged protected, the naked clothed, and the infants cared for and shelter for the shelter less.Health, Welfare and Security are vital to the sustenance of our people and for the common good of ALL humanity. We are confident that individual acts of charity and caring for our Elders and other members of our family are done daily by members of the Ras Tafari community; whether they hail from the Bobo Shanti Mansion; the Twelve Tribes of Israel; the Nyabinghi Theocratic Order, and all regions between these camps and locations in the global Diaspora and on the African continent.IDOR has recognized that the time has now matured for a focused, structured and comprehensive plan that is managed within a credible institution and which incorporates the assets and facilities available to us wherever our Elders and family reside, and which utilizes the skills, energies and resources of our community in a formal setting.Over the past year IDOR has embarked on the caring for and strengthening of the pillars of our Shashamene Ethiopian community, the Elders. Working with the Ethiopian based Social Welfare Security Committee, we enrolled and paid-up dues for over fifteen Elders in this Shashamene community based welfare program. We also initiated an Elders Medical Project which screened, treated and monitors the health and wellbeing of all our qualified Shashamene Elders.Ras Tafari Elders and Shashamene Pioneers in particular, are national treasures for the edification and historic symbolism they offer to the collective body of Ras Tafari children. This very appropriate pilot project of Elders care has been challenging, historic and successful. We give thanks to our creator Haile Selassie I for inspiring this mission. We are also thankful for the work and sacrifices of Brother Joseph McPhee, Sister Wolete Selassie, Nurse-Paulette Asher, Sister Fayolin Benjamin, Sister Lena, Sister Bev and Sister Tibebwa, all of whom are based in Ethiopia and has all contributed to the current positive developments of the project. We are equally grateful to Sister Vivette and Sister Valarie in particular and the many contributors and community workers here in the Diaspora, whom have given of their time and resources. The next phase for the Ethiopian project includes an Elders Center or meeting place. This is proposed to be a physical location in Shashamene, exclusive to the Elders, where they can avail themselves to the community to teach and share their oral history and that of the movement’s development and also to reciprocate from the community the social and emotional warmth of family; becoming more integrated, recognized and respected. This proposal is contingent upon our fund raising efforts, the consent and participation of our Elders, and the endorsementand blessings of our Father.
As we revel in the positive developments of our Elders project, we are mindful that our work require the good prayers and positive participation of those who are motivated toward fulfilling the vision of the Father within the ways HIM has prescribed. For those who are willing to sacrifice and participate in this historic work; we welcome your contribution of time and resources. We are also willing to coordinate and provide logistical support for those who are prepared to go to Shashemene and give service to this project or initiate other mandated IDOR projects in Ethiopia. Elders Medical Project meeting 1/18/2009 (Mama Baby I, Elder Rupee & Ras Kabinda)
You must go forth to encounter the problems where they exist in order to solve them. In this you must act as examples to others. It may be that your country and countrymen require the sacrifice of your personal comfort as part of your duty! To envy the achievements of others and to complain of one's own problems is a specialty of the indolent, and is tantamount to shying away from responsibility. You all know that the developed world achieved its high degree of advancement, not quickly nor by mere talk, but by hard work over a long period of time." - GIREMAWI KEDAMAWI HAILE SELASSIE I
