LANGSTON HUGHES, became part of the Harlem Renaissance and was known during his lifetime as "the poet laureate of Harlem.” His poems, which tell of the joys and miseries of the ordinary black man in America, have been widely translated.
Dream Deferred What happens to a dream deferred? Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun? Or fester like a sore-- and then run? Does it stink like rotten meat? Or crust and sugar over-- like a syrupy sweet? Maybe it just sags like a heavy load Or does it just explode?

Langston Hughes received various awards for his writing. He write a best seller called Simple Speaks His Mind. He also write a play that ran on Broadway. He died in 1967.
