Cooling Off Lab By: Theo P., Callie G. and Hugo B.
The Task at Hand For the Cooling off lab we were asked to measure the change in temperature of tin foil. We had to heat up a wad of tin foil. the tin foil had a thermometer wrapped inside. Using the thermometer we had to track and record the change in temperature over time.
Variables • In this lab the Independent variable was Time • The Dependent variable was Temperature
Data Points During this lab we recorded 36 data points The first 8 were...
Graph Temp (C) 61.28 49.01 0 40 Time (Sec)
Complications Some of the complications that we ran into during the lab were that the calculator was not recognizing the program, the wire would get disconnected from calculator, and we had the rate at which measurements were taken on to low of an interval.
Knowledge Gained When we first began this lab we already knew that the second we removed the heat source it would begin to cool. However we did not know at what rate. From this lab we learned that the Temperature will exponentially decrease as time moves on.
What to Change If Asked to do Lab Again? Well obviously we would like to avoid all the complications, but other than that our group would have liked to change the means of which we heated the tin foil. The Hair dryer did its job but was very inefficient therefore we would have liked to had something to produce more Heat.
