Bottom line: What every Command Post must be able to do in 21st Century • Ingest data of all kinds (databases, sensors, social media, mediafeeds, etc) in a totally seamless, format-agnostic manner. • Display data in a manner that is both intuitive and easily manipulated by the user • Push data into deep analysis that will not only search the data, but do discovery in it-answering questions the user didn't know to ask • Not only permit, but encourage seamless data sharing, both vertically and horizontally.
SDS approach • Combine three best-of-breed products: • IBM’s Defense Operations Platform (DOP) • IBM Analytic Products (“Watson-like”) • InfoSphere Streams • Identity Analytics • Content Analytics with Enterprise Search • Oblong Mezzanine and g-speak
Defense Operations Platform • One integrated, pre-hardened platform to: • Ingest data (format-agnostic) • Manage the enterprise • Internal messaging • Mediate data • Provide security harness for uncertified applications

Analytics • The ability to do “discovery”—and not just search—in large data sets is key. • The analyst will not always know what to tell the system to look for. By giving “seed” terms and relationships, the analyst can cue the system as to what to look for. Start from a directed point(s) and work outwards. • The analytics can work in any language set, and is not put off by slang terms.
Watson and Next Generation Analytics Commercialization of “Ready for Watson” Solutions Watson Brings Together Transformational Technologies to Drive Optimized Outcomes Initial Focus Areas • Military and Intelligence: • Network/link analysis • Social media integration • Financial Services: • Institutional investment decision support • Retail financial advisor decision support • Contact Centers • “Ready for Watson” will address additional business needs with complementary “Watson” technologies Generates and evaluates hypothesis for better outcomes Understandsnatural language and human speech 99% 60% 10% Adapts and Learns from user selections and responses
Oblong • Real world pixels • You aren’t seeing a representation of the data. The data is there for you to navigate and manipulate. • Multi-device, spatial Input/Output • Multiple users, multiple devices dealing with data simultaneously, but transparently to each other • Multiple application support • Multiple applications, legacy or Oblong-optimized, can run simultaneously, with data moving between them
SDS • Mantid believes that the SDS works best as a system of systems • However, individual components can also provide large return on investment (RoI) • Bring the data together, enable analysis, enhance collaboration through navigation
