  1. How to find main idea. OPENING Definition : The main idea is the subject of the paragraph, that is, what the paragraph is about. The main idea of a paragraph is the author’s idea about the topic. It is always a complete sentences that includes both the topic and the idea that the author wishes to express about the topic.

  2. Characteristic : The topic sentence opens the paragraph. The sentences carrying the supporting ideas come next. The placement as an upright triangle. Example : Liang Bua, in the local language of Teras, means cold water of the cave, it named because the stalactites of the caves’ upper walls always drop fresh and cold water onto the floor bellow. According it folklore, Reba Ruek was a short, hairy and darkskinned man in Liang Bua, who was first discovered by boar hunters. The main idea is in the first of paragraph. Main idea Supporting ideas

  3. Characteristic : The topic sentence is at the end of the paragraph. The supporting ideas come first The placement as an upside-down triangle. Example : The couple were to Surprised to do anything. The peach than cracked open, and there was a beautiful baby boy inside. The couple were very happy, of course. Example : Usually people do not suddenly quit talking, say good-bye, and leave each other abruptly; endinding a conversation normally takes some time. This involves two kinds of interactions ; preclosings and closings. Preclosings are phrases that signal the end of a conversation; Closings are phrases that explicitly end the conversation.   5. Look for headings that is titles for the paragraphs. The writers may put all or part of the main idea in heading. Look at the relations among the sentences. The topic sentence is the most general statement. Use the linking device. The topic sentence may be joined to the supporting sentences by like for example, namely, because, and so on. Finding implied ideas takes three steps : Look at the sentences together. Go further than the different words. Find the idea that all the sentences share. This shared ideas is the implied main idea. Make a direct statement of your own. Directly state the implied main idea as a paragraph heading or as a topic sentence. Check your statement. Test each of the writers’ sentences againts your statement There are several ways to help you find directly stated main idea.
