  1. What Should You Know About the Side Effects of Chemotherapy Chemotherapy is a type of cancer treatment that has many side effects. For facial cancer treatment, your oncologist may suggest chemotherapy. But is it safe to undergo a cancer treatment having many side effects? Most caregivers and patients remain concerned about the side effects of chemotherapy.

  2. Vomiting and Nausea Many chemotherapy drugs can cause nausea and vomiting in the initial days after treatment. Anti-nausea medications can help manage these side effects.

  3. Hair loss Chemotherapy can cause hair loss on the body part, like eyelashes, eyebrows, and scalp. This side effect is usually temporary. Your hair loss stops back once treatment is over. Fatigue Many people undergoing chemotherapy often experience extreme fatigue. You can feel hard to handle daily activities. Rest can help manage this side effect. Mouth sores Some chemotherapy drugs can cause sores in the mouth, which can be painful and make it difficult to eat and drink. Good oral hygiene help prevent these sores from developing. Diarrhea Chemotherapy can cause diarrhea, which can be uncomfortable. If not managed on time, diarrhea can lead to dehydration. Drink plenty of fluids and follow your healthcare provider’s recommendations for managing diarrhea.

  4. Constipation Chemotherapy drugs can cause constipation among patients. You can get relief through over-the-counter medications or dietary changes. Neuropathy Some chemotherapy drugs can cause nerve damage, leading to numbness, tingling, or a sensation of “pins and needles” in the hands and feet. The side effect is usually temporary but can be painful. You might seek treatment to get rid of the chemotherapy side effect. Anemia Chemotherapy can cause anemia or a low red blood cell count and lead to fatigue, shortness of breath, and an increased risk of infection. Your healthcare provider may suggest iron supplements to manage anemia. Changes in skin and nails Chemotherapy can cause changes in the appearance of the skin and nails, such as dryness, rashes, and discoloration. The side effects are temporary and may resolve once treatment is over. Increased susceptibility to infection Chemotherapy can weaken the immune system and makes it more difficult for the body to fight off infections. Take precautions to prevent infections, like avoiding large crowds and washing your hands.
