  1. Character Education DISTINCTIVE FEATURE of KIVAM JHS KIVAM JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL 2011

  2. For intro: NOT TAUGHT - CAUGHT! • “GOOD CHARACTER IS CAUGHT AND NOT TAUGHT!” is the slogan that you can see in this ( ) video from Singapore, which promotes the education in this area. First of all, we want to state that we fully acknowledge the truth this motto proclaims and we make a start sticking and clinging to this fact.

  3. Supplementary Course of a Primary Importance • The matter is of a paramount importance as the world we live in experiences an increased awareness of the issue. Insufficiencies in approaching the problems, communities at various levels have been facing recently, have made the case top priority for governments as well as civil society.

  4. Objective: Inform. Assist. Make Aware. • Pupils are provided information on basic notions in the area of character education. They supposedly acquire theoretical knowledge in this field. • (We still assert that the main application area for the knowledge got in this field is social relations as the sphere of its realization, which is where the true character traits reveal themselves. As a result, the practical aspect is seemingly much more important, which is why the family is meant to be the main source of acquisition of relevant consciousness as well as experience.)

  5. Methodology • Pupils are pre-taught vocabulary. That is how they get to know common notions related to a rather new realm of their experience. • The implementation of the material for instruction is facilitated by visual aid, which includes videos from various online sources, PowerPoint presentations and meaningful/ inspirational pictures. SmartBoard interface, which provides a highly saturated multimedia environment, is used to display the items mentioned above.

  6. Movie lessons • The idea is based on a presupposition that some concepts are perceived easier through motion pictures. Some highly inspirational films or those explicitly depicting the target notion or trait, and thus allowing periodically to elicit some relevant ideas, are a godsend to schools and educators. • It goes without saying that those are means to keep up to date.

  7. Supplementary 2 • The course is presented through e-learning, a supplementary online system used by educators of the school, i.e. there is no particular textbook. Thus, there appears to be a harmonic consonance when a subject that “supplements” family upbringing is challenged to fit the purpose by meeting the needs imposed by the era.
