Origins / Recipients 238 Origin/Recipients 2 Timothy • Paul penned 2 Timothy to his long-time traveling companion, Timothy (2 Tim. 1:2), 5 years after his 1st letter. • Assuming Timothy still remained in Ephesus • (1 Tim. 1:3b), 2 Timothy also had the same destination (2 Tim. 1:16-18; 4:19). • The letter was written from Rome (1:17; 2:9) during Paul's 2nd Roman imprisonment after his 1st defense before the Imperial Court (4:16-17).   9. MAJOR THEME 1: Faithfulness Examples of Faithfulness: a. Learn from mother, Eunice, & grandmother, Lois (1:3-7) Learn in one’s own home, withparentssetting example of faithfulness in daily dealings.

  10. MAJOR THEME 1: Faithfulness b. Learn from Paul (1:8-14) Paul remained faithful in difficult times because he believed and trusted God to keep him till the end (1:11-12).

  11. MAJOR THEME 1: Faithfulness • c. Learn from Onesiphorus (1:15-18) • Onesiphorus was not ashamed to be known as a friend of Paul when he was a prisoner. He searched for Paul very diligently and found him.

  12. Characteristics of Faithfulness • Soldier(2: 3-4) – To fight well, a soldier must disengage himself from all other worldly businesses so that he can stay focus on his vocation and please his commander.

  14. 3. Farmer(2:6-13) – A farmer must work hard inorder to achieve a good harvest. • Faithfulness = loyal to Christ, our commander, to follow the law of God and work hard

Soldier, athlete in training, hardworking farmer? • 2. Are you experiencing apostasy in your ministry? What can you do to survive? • 3. Reflect on what kind of testimony you would write at the end of your life. What words of encouragement and challenge for the next generation?

  19. CONCLUSION • Effective Testimony • “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” • 2 Timothy 4:7 Paul’s advice to Timothy is valid.

The Final Victory “Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day--and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:8 With the reward ahead, the task in hand will look much lighter.
