Full-wave rectifiers • There are two type of full wave rectifier circuits: • Bridge rectifier. • Center-tapped transformer.
Full-wave rectifier operation • During the period t = 0 to T/2 the polarity of the input is shown in fig. below and current flow through Diode D2 and D3 are conducting while D1 and D4 are in the “off” state.
V average • For ideal diode: • For Silicon • PIV for full-wave bridge rectifier
Example • For the Full-wave rectifier circuit shown below, the Vr.m.sequal to 12v . Draw input and output and diode waveforms, and find the value of average for the load voltage and current.
Network conditions for the positive region of vi. • During the positive portion of vi applied to the primary of the transformer, the network will appear as shown in Fig. below. D1 assumes the short-circuit equivalent and D2 the open-circuit equivalent
Network conditions for the nagativeregion of vi. • During the negative portion of the input the network appears as shown in Fig. below, reversing the roles of the diodes but maintaining the same polarity for the voltage
V average • For ideal diode • For Silicon diode • PIV for center-tapped transformer full-wave rectifier
Example • For the Full-wave rectifier circuit shown below, the Vr.m.sequal to 12v . Draw input and output and diode waveforms, and find the value of average for the load voltage and current.
