  2. Habitat • Open plains in Africa • Lives in dens • Type of home- Grassy places

  3. Appearances • Height- 2 1\2 – 3 ft at the shoulder • Weight- 110-140lbs • Color- Yellow • Type of skin- “Tawny coat with closely spaced round black spots.”

  4. Eating Habits • Carnivore • Gazelles, wildebeest calves, impalas and smaller hoofed animals • Runs down it’s prey on the grassy savannah

  5. Behaviors and Other Interesting Facts • 2-4 babies at a time • Hides babies in a deep hole in the ground • Protection- Runs after animal until it is far away from its home • Lifespan- 10 to 20 years • Predators- eagles, humans, hyenas and lions • Speed- 60 miles an hour for short distances – making it the fastest land mammal • Stays in the same place all year long • Use their tails to steer when they are running • They can’t roar
