  3. Absolute Location WHAT IS IT? • A specific place on the Earth’s surface • Latitude and longitude • A global address

  4. EXAMPLE: Rhode Island Absolute Location 41° N Latitude 71° W longitude

  5. Relative Location: WHAT IS IT? • Where a place is in relation to another place, such as borders • Uses directional words to describe a location.

  6. EXAMPLE: Relative LocationRHODE ISLAND: • Rhode Island is bordered by Massachusetts to the north and east, Connecticut to the west, and the Atlantic Ocean to the south.

  7. Theme 2: PlacePhysical Characteristics WHAT IS IT? • Land Features • Mountains, plains, and plateaus • Climate • Bodies of Water
