Personal life • Age: 67 Years; born on July 24th 1945, in Mumbai, India • Chairman of Wipro Group • Education: BSEE(BS degree in Electrical Engg) from Stanford University, USA. • Family: Azim Premji is married to Yasmeen. The couple have two children, Rishad and Tariq. • Family Background: family owned Business of Hydrogenated Oils and Toiletries. • Succesfully diversified the group into IT business • Personality Traits: Highly Professionalism, down to earth and Value Oriented, Action based and keep away from spotlights

  4. Career • Azim Premji took the reign of family owned business in hydrogenated cooking fats at the age of 21 • Thereafter Premji made a focused shift from soaps to software. In the 80s Wipro diversified into IT. • Won the confidence of shareholders – a major hurdle for diversification • Wipro is one of the largest and fastest growing IT companies in India.

Azim Premji - Achievements • Premji owns 79 percent of Wipro, one of the largest and fastest growing IT company in India. • Third wealthiest Indian, and the 41st richest in the world - Forbes • Personal wealth of $12.2 billion in 2012 In 2000 (Forbes) • Greatest Entrepreneurs for Wipro emerging as one of the world’s fastest growing companies by Business Week • Voted among the 20 most powerful men in the world by Asiaweek. • Listed among the 100 most influential people by TIME Magazine in 2004 and 2011.

Contribution To Indian IT Industry • Wipro is one of the major IT company in India and leading by setting the examples. • Azim Premji was actively involved with NASSCOM and Indian Government • Played Key role in Initiating IT industry favorable policies as an advisor to Government of India, Prime Minister and NASSCOM • Leadership position served as a benchmark for other IT companies. • IT Industry contributed to India’s rapid economic growth and provided jobs to millions of people.

Honors and Recognitions • In 2000, conferred an honorary doctorate by the Manipal Academy of Higher Education. • Padma Bhushan in 2005 by Government Of India • Lakshya Business Visionary in 2006 by National Institute of Industrial Engineering, Mumbai • Honorary doctorate in 2008 from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut for his outstanding philanthropic work. • Doctor of Literature (D.Litt.) from the Aligarh Muslim University in 2008 • Padma Vibhushan in 2011, the second highest civilian award by the Government of India.
