  2. FLAG APPROVAL PROCESS First stage: Faculty Council defines each flag. Completed in January 2007. Second stage: UGSAC and faculty flag committees interpret the Faculty Council definitions. UGS communicates definitions to deans and chairs. Third stage: Faculty and departments propose specific courses and classes for flags.

  3. FLAG APPROVAL PROCESS (CONT’D) Fourth stage: Faculty committees and associate deans in colleges and schools review flag proposals. Fifth stage: Flag committees review courses and classes proposed for flags, approving those that meet the criteria, and reporting any policy issues/recommendations to UGSAC. UGSAC works with the EPC and FC to resolve outstanding policy issues. Sixth stage: Dean of UGS reports flag approvals to the registrar.

  4. FLAG APPROVAL PROCESS (CONT’D) Monitoring and assessment: UGSAC and the flag committees will monitor flagged courses and classes by checking syllabi as appropriate and will develop methods for assessing courses to determine how well their objectives are being met. The Dean of Undergraduate Studies will report assessment results to UGSAC on a regular basis.

  7. Flag Approvals Fall 2008 about 1,500 flag proposals reviewed approximately 650 flags approved -- (400 at the course level and 250 at the class level)

Flag Requirement Implementation • UGS is collecting seat count information for flagged courses. • Some degree programs will require the completion of certain flags beginning with the 2010-2012 Undergraduate Catalog. • Most flag requirements will be implemented in fall 2012 and later, as more seats in flagged courses become available.

  10. Flag Requirement Implementation • Addition of flags to degree programs will be approved as are all degree program changes. • UGSAC and the flag committees plan to continue building the inventory of flagged courses over the next few years as we work toward full implementation of the flag requirements in each degree program.
