  2. What is Rotary? • World’s largest service organisation • Over 1.2 million members in more than 32,000 clubs in over 200 countries • 1845 clubs in GB and Ireland with 58 000 members • Help for those in need • “Service above self”

  3. A Brief History 1905: First Rotary Club founded by Paul Harris in Chicago 1908/09: Several other clubs formed in US 1910: First club outside US – Winnipeg 1911: First British Club (Dublin) – then Belfast, London, Manchester 1923: Folkestone Club chartered – 104th in Britain, 8th in Kent

  4. The Object of Rotary is: To encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

  5. 1: The development of acquaintance as a worthy opportunity for service

  6. 2: High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society

  7. 3: The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business and community life

  8. 4: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service

Rotary Foundation The International Charity arm of Rotary International which provides funding for a varying portfolio of projects throughout the World including • Polio-Plus: working with Unicef and WHO to eradicate Polio • Humanitarian projects • Matching and other grants • Disaster Relief Grants • Educational programmes
