Tula the Terrible Written by Nils Holm Illustrated by Mike Duven
In the sleepiest village in the spookiest house, sat one tiny witch feasting on mouse.
She was a most dreadful witch, yes really quite cursed, and the last hundred years had made her much worse. She flew through the village on her spindly broom, casting spells, brewing potions, spreading terror and gloom. She frightened the villagers, yes this witch was unbearable, they fled at her sight screaming, “Tula the Terrible!”
But beneath her black hat and her small pointed shoes, You never would guess this witch had the blues. She perched on her house to curse those who strolled by, But no spell could stop the tears in her eyes.
Then suddenly she had an idea, yes this plan would do, She made way to her cauldron and started to brew.
She added ingredients that didn’t look tasty, “Something’s not right!” she cackled, “This potion’s too pasty!” And then she remembered, yes no need to fret, A lock of her hair, how could she forget? The potion turned purple and Tula sighed with relief, But what happened next is beyond your belief.
She served up the potion to her three favorite kitties, With a devilish grin she whispered, “Drink up my pretties!” The cats quickly drank up all of the potion, And that’s when Tula’s magic was set into motion.
With a flash and a pop the cats were transformed, Tula’s potion had worked and her family was born. A mother, father, and sister of her own, Her sadness was gone, she was no longer alone.
She was eager to show them her wicked delights, So she took them along as she spread fear in the night.
But her new family was different, no they were not bad, And Tula got a stern scolding from cat mom and cat dad. For the first time in her life Tula truly felt terrible, Yes this feeling inside her was really unbearable. She made up her mind to do something quite strange, But was it too late for this small witch to change?
Being kind was not something she could cast, charm, or brew But Tula did the very thing she had set out to do. See now my little witch? It’s never too late My Tula’s not terrible, my Tula is great!
