Challenges of partnerships “The NFHSDP is an innovative attempt to introduce privately provided management and appropriately skilled health personnel services into the district health structure. The performance indicators show improved health system performance in the North Fly district. This improvement is partially attributable to the activities of the NFHSDP, as well as the activities of the existing providers.” “It also inadvertently dis-empowers the district health management by usurping their function.” “Despite the draw backs, much can be learnt from this model.” NDoH and AusAID. Lessons learned • Communication – crucial to success • Having a shared vision to develop a whole-of-district approach • Share responsibility and learn to grow together and understand each other to continue to work in partnership • Sharing resources to minimise the burden • Complete baseline survey as part of pre-mobilisation activities, rather than during implementation • Knowing partner catchment areas and populations

  17. Sustaining the partnership It is vital that the previous achievements of the program are maintained and built upon, and the challenges to effective health service delivery are addressed in the coming years
